Run,Jump,Throw

On Thursday we learnt how to use the Pole Vault.  This was so much fun being thrown up into the air.  Watch Xavier and Sophie on the video below.

Here are some more photos of us doing the Pole Vault.

Then we did a 20m sprint and got timed.  We have some very fast runners in our class.

Thinking Thursday

This week we made apple scones, which was part of our inquiry unit on Body Fuel, they were yummy!  We also had dress ups, lego, playdough and shops, wheels and scooters and making bird feeders.

Teddy Tuesday

Today we all brought our teddies to school for the morning.
We had a super time doing teddy reading, teddy fitness and teddy writing.

Look at us criss-cross candyfloss on the mat with our teddies and special soft toys.

Getting ready for teddy fitness

Look at how fast our teddies, sharks, leopards and dolphins can race.

Meet some of our teddies

Maki said, "this is my teddy called Rainbow.  I don't remember where I got her from. I call her Rainbow because
he has got rainbow colours on him.  He can sit up.  Mum put a ribbon on him".

"This is my morepork.  He has a soft, squishy beak.  Sometimes I have bad dreams without him.  He makes a morepork sound.  His neck can twist", said Chloe.

Taydin said, "this is my great white shark.  I got him from the warehouse in South Africa.  He sleeps where all my other teddies are.  Sometimes he sleeps beside me in my bed, he has got sharp teeth."

To read about the rest of our teddies come  and look in Room 3.

Kids Restore the Kepler - Wood Pigeon

This week our bird was the Wood Pigeon.  One new fact were learnt was that kereru feed their chick on milk.  They make a special high protein milk in a special pouch in their throat called a crop.  Both parents make milk and feed the chick.

We made some Wood Pigeon masks.  Can you guess who we are??

Kids Restore the Kepler - Kiwi

Did you know that Fiordland is home to the tokoeka, the largest type of kiwi.  Females are larger than males and can weigh over three kilos (that’s nearly as much as a takahe!).
We drew our own kiwis last week and wrote some great facts about the Kiwi.  Here are just a small selection.

Kids Restore the Kepler

We were lucky enough to have the Kiwi from DOC come in.  We used this to create our own drawings of Kiwis.

Run, Jump, Throw

We are lucky enough to take part in a 6 week Run, Jump, Throw programme that Southland Sport are running.  We have Lorne come up every Thursday and teach us some skills for 45 minutes.  These are some of the activities we did last week.

Hiwi the kiwi show

Lucky Te Anau School!  We had the Minstrel and Mrs Minstrel visit us yesterday.
We sang songs and talked about fishing for the future, and being safe on the water.

The Minstrel brought along a fishing rod with flashing lights!

Do you know why you need to take a wet towel with you when you go fishing?
Ask a Room 3 person to explain.

Riley is doing careful measuring to see if the snapper is big enough.
Do you know how to measure a fish accurately?  Room 3 can tell you.
