Lion Art - using pastel as the medium

Today's Art group with Mrs Taylor looked at how to use pastels in a way to create a lion's mane by making long, quick strokes.

Here is our group working on our manes.

Garden Art Update...

Here we are putting green string around for the dragonfly's head
One more week to go until our Art Exhibition,  still to finish are our Kiwi, dragonfly and moreporks.

We got some 'man' power today to help drill some holes into our metal so we could attach our rope to hang them.

Some more twisting willow into circles...

And now it has a head!!  It's starting to look like a Kiwi!!

How do we learn Maths in Room 3?

We do lots of hands-on activities in Room 3 learning maths in all different ways.  Here are some examples from the past couple of weeks.
This is Ashen and Will - looking at The Warehouse online and rounding up lego to the closest ten.

Next we have to find 3 items - round them up to the nearest dollar and add them by imaging.  Can you work out $150.00+$29.99+$59.00 by imaging?  These boys can and they are only Year 2's!!

Joshua and Liam are working out patterns to numbers.  They have to work out the mystery dot, then number before, after, 10 before, 10 after.

James was using dominoes to add on from the highest number and match them to cards.  A fun way to learn to add on.
Chase has made a 'tens' man - he has 2 beads on one leg and 8 on the other.

Determination - let's get the job done

Here we are trying to write our names with our toes!
As part of our Values this week, we are learning about DETERMINATION.  We watched a You Tube clip about a little girl who had no arms.  She showed great determination to complete everyday tasks.  We had to have a go at writing our name on a piece of paper with our toes, and then try and thread a bead onto a pipe cleaner.  This was extremely hard but as you can see below we all showed our Te Anau value of Determination!
Look at the determination on Bella's face.

Here we are trying to thread a bead onto a pipe cleaner.  We were allowed to use our arms this time to lean back on!
Some of us managed to get it on in the end, but it was hard.

Then some of us had a go tucking our arms away - this was SO HARD!!

Kiwi weaving

Our last group is working with Jane.  They are making a Kiwi using willow twigs.  First they had to make a round body and use patience to weave and tie the twigs on.
Here we are trying to get the first part done
Now we are working on tying the twigs together with twine.

Making Mushrooms

Our group has finished making the hedgehogs with Grandma Joy, so now we are making some mushrooms.  We had to paint up some old bowls then find the right sticks to glue as stems.

Art with Mrs Taylor

These are our bubbles we made - we had to work together to do this
Learning the techniques of paper curling
