What are children doing when not out doing Garden Art?

If our adult helpers can't come on a day we are back in Room 3 with Mrs Taylor being exposed to a variety of art works.

Today (Monday 12th September) our group tried some tin foil art and mosaic hearts.

We were sanding the stick to make it smooth and sawing off some excess branches.

Day 2 with our Koru carvings.

We got to use some exciting tools today.  We had face masks on and safety goggles.

Today our hedgehog group started with "Grandma Joy".

We had to work carefully to wrap the twine around the bottle to create our nose.  This was stuck down with PVA

The beginnings of our Garden Art....

Our school is having an art exhibition on Labour Weekend.  Each class has a conservation focus.  Room 3 has decided to combine what we have learnt about Kids Restore the Kepler into some Garden Art - which also ties nicely being an Enviro School.

We are in 5 small groups and have some great adult helpers with each group.

We will keep updating photos on this blog as we create our creatures!!

Spelling chunk - 'ake'

This week our spelling chunk is words from the 'ake' family.
We have been learning to spell these words: make, lake, bake, take, rake, wake, snake, cake, lake, milkshake, pancake, cupcake, awake, shake, earthquake, mistake.
To practice our spelling words we drew something which has the ake word chunk, and wrote our words inside.

How many 'ake' words can you think of?

Our Waka

As part of our Investigating our Journey Inquiry, we created a waka.  On our paddles we have drawn three things that are special about our area 'Fiordland'
We have also go some stories about the Legend of Milford Sound underneath, as well as some ripped paper art of Milford Sound.
Come and have a look in the school hall.

Planning our writing

So far this term, our focus during writing time has been to add more detail to our planning, by labelling it.
Then, when we write our stories we can include these exciting topic WOW words into our writing.
Look at our attempts to label our planning so far:

'Magic e

At spelling time this week the Rulers have been learning all about 'magic' e.

We know that when two vowels go walking the first one does the talking.

For example: pin - pine*                           tim - time*
