Road Safety Posters

During draft writing we have been creating posters with a buddy, to share all we have learned about wheel safety.

We are proud of how they turned out.  Look at some of our examples:

On Friday we took our posters to Southern Stars.  We sang the children our "stop, look, listen and decide" song, and then we shared our posters with them.  They are going to make the posters into a book to read with the children.

Look in our Room 3 window to see the copies we made of our posters

Wheel Safety with Constable Marty

In the afternoon Constable Marty went over some basic Wheel safety.  We learnt that we MUST be wearing a helmet if we ride anything with wheels as it protects our soft brain in our heads.

To make our helmet fit correctly we need to remember the numbers 2, 4, and 1.
2 fingers on our forehead is where it must sit, 4 fingers made into a V shape around our ears, and 1 finger between the strap and our chin.

To be safe we must:  wear covered shoes, tuck our pants into our socks so they don't get caught in the chain and wear a vest.

We should ride a bike that is the correct size for us.  We must be able to touch the ground when on our seats.  Will hopped on a bike that was too big for him.

Our bikes must have brakes that work, a red back reflector, and reflectors on the pedals and wheels.

We are not allowed to ride our bikes on the road without a adult supervising us as we are too young.  Bikes are not allowed on the footpath as they are designed for feet!!  You can scooter on the footpath but you must hop off your scooter when you see someone.

Constable Marty's Visit

Today we had a special visit from Constable Marty and Leo the lion.

Leo the lion

They came to talk to us about crossing the road safely and being safe on our bikes.

Look at Constable Marty holding Leo's hand to help him cross the road safely.

We went out to the pedestrian crossing near the school swimming pool and practiced crossing the road, remembering to STOP, LOOK, LISTEN AND DECIDE before we crossed the street.

This is a safe place to cross the street, it is a pedestrian crossing.
It has black and white stripes like a zebra.

We  look carefully for traffic coming.

Yummy Carrots

Mr Rush had a big day tidying our gardens on Friday.  We had some yummy carrots given to us to enjoy!

Sunshine Online

During our Shared Book time we have been exploring a fantastic website called Sunshine Online together.
This website has many wonderful literacy activities that the children can work on independently, as a way of gaining extra reading practice.

Room 3 Assembly News

Last Friday was our first School Assembly.
The Assembly team asked each class to send them three things for assembly: a photo of the class and something they were proud of, and a 'blurb' about the children.
This is what we shared with the team.

Hello from Room 3
We have been very busy in our class, and we are already feeling very proud of the new things we have learnt to do.
We think being proud makes you feel happy.
Look at what we are proud of so far…
-         Getting faster at our Mad Maths Minute work.
-         Writing our numbers around the right way.
-         Learning to read new words.
-         Making our letters sit on the line at handwriting.
-         Learning to use the reading wheel at reading time.
-         Getting better at swimming.
We are also very proud of our art work.
Here is a photo to show you.
Come and have a look in our classroom to see the rest.
