Bubblegum writing

We can spell many known words correctly.

We are learning to sound out words we do not know how to write by stretching them out so we can hear all the sounds.

Today we tried to stretch real bubblegum.  (We know this is bad manners, but Mr Excell said we could do it just this once!).

Next we threw our bubblegum out and practiced with a pretend piece of gum.

Look at Cora stretching out words.

We now know that if we have a pretend piece of bubblegum in our pocket, we can spell any word at all.

  1. Hi Room 3!
What an inventive way to visualise the length of a word. I bet it made spelling fun! Are there any other techniques you could recommend to me to help me hear all the sounds in a word? Thanks heaps for sharing. Rowan.

  2. Some other things we do are: word chunks - that is when we find a big word and find little ones inside (Bella), use our Robot arms (Will), sound it out (Jemima),start from the beginning of the word (Esme), use my brain (Connor), have a look on the word wall (Lucy)
